My work is in response to emotional events and the physical world I encounter. By physically committing myself to the piece, there eventually emerges an emotional clarity between myself and the work. Gradually a narrative becomes apparent from the intensively worked steel and finely crafted shapes that create the formal elements.
Changes occur from the initial conception of the piece as dialog develops between myself and the metal that ultimately informs the direction of the work.
I use different metals for their different characteristics; stainless steel catches the changing environment in its reflective surface; mild steel once free of mill scale begins to form rust; steel with a treated galvanised finish for its longevity and organic qualities.
